The Ekadashi that falls in the month of Phalguna during Krishna Paksha is referred to as Vijaya Ekadashi. Ekadashi is one of the most important days in the Hindu calendar. It is the eleventh day in a fortnight, this year, Vijaya Ekadashi will be celebrated today, on February 19, 2020.
Additionally, can we eat rice on Ekadashi? Generally, rice is not consumed on Ekadashi. According to a mythological story, sweat fell down from Lord Brahma's head and took shape of a demon. When the demon asked the lord to give a place to reside, Brahma asked him to dwell in rice eaten by men on Ekadashi and get converted into worms in their stomach.
Considering this, what time does ekadashi start?
This period of abstinence starts from sunrise on the day of Ekādaśī to sunset on the following day. Rice is not eaten on Ekadashi. The timing of each Ekādaśī is according to the position of the moon. The Hindu calendar marks progression from a full moon to a new moon as divided into fifteen equal arcs.
What do you eat on Ekadashi?
You can eat all the fruits such as banana, apples, oranges, etc. along with cucumber, radish, pumpkin, lemon and coconut. You can also eat sugar on this day. In spices, only black pepper is edible if you are fasting on Ekadashi.
