Just so, what are the advantages of chromium plating?
Chrome plating increases the hardness, durability, and corrosion resistance of a surface, while also creating a shiny and smooth surface that is easier to clean. For improved wear and corrosion resistance, it's tough to beat hard chrome plating.
Beside above, why is chromium used for electroplating why the objects which have chromium plating are not made of chromium itself? Chromium has a shiny appearance, does not corrode and resists scratches. So the object is made from a cheaper metal and only a coating of chromium over it is done.
Secondly, why is chromium not used as anode?
There are exceptions to the use of soluble anodes. For example, chromium is plated out of chromic acid, using lead anodes, because chromium metal will not dissolve properly from the anodes into the solution.
What are the disadvantages of chrome plating?
The Disadvantages of Chrome Plating include the following:
- Non-uniform coating.
- Hexavalent Chromium is a hazardous air pollutant.
- Measuring surface tension is tedious and suffers from inaccuracy.
- Corrosion resistance of thicker coatings is not quite as good.
- Cost of the chemicals is greater.
